Truly great albums don't always reveal themselves to you right away. Sometimes you really have to spend time with them, peel back the layers, investigate, find the right setting, the right mood, etc. Usually after the third or fourth listen, you have a sense that something truly special is going on and that you've got an album you're going to want to be listening to for some time.
And then sometimes... You hear a song, it blows you away, you immediately go buy the album, take it home and from the first note you're hooked. You LOVE every song on the album on the first spin and as soon as it's over you immediately play it again from the beginning.
That happened to me today.
And frankly, I needed it.
The band is called The Acorn. The album is called "Glory Hope Mountain".
I'm listening to it right now for the third time this evening.
It's making me happy.
Their first single was released as a free download.
Enjoy.

it took you till the 3rd album to "discover" them! you are starting to sound like Spin magazine! i expect better from you Fili! Tell me about the amazing band out of Canada the Anemones and the stunning vinyl only release they put out last summer! Give me new and cutting edge, not 3rd album glowing discoveries! Shame, Shame, Shame!
Hey, I didn't say they were "new", I just said they're new to me.
Leave it to the guy I used to work at a record store with to bust my nuts about a "new" band.
Thanks, Huts.
Just keeping you in check! I agree with you, the band has gotten better with each release. i discovered them because they were described as Arcade Fire meets R.E.M. in some music review. Glory Hope Mountain is pretty solid and gets better with age, please let the readers know what wine goes best with them, Mr. Fili!
You should check out the Anemones from Canada, not that the LA band of the same name isn't good, think Mazzy Star, Cowboy Junkies, Rain Parade for the LA version. The Canada version is hard to fully describe.
I must confess that you have turned me onto bands that I haven't heard of. That's why I come back to read about your favorite wines and whining!
You should check out the label Numero Group: www.numerogroup.com.
When I was back in O-town, I was turned on to the label by KT and have picked up several of the releases. The Good God Gospel Funk Hymnal is like Parliament Funkadelic meets James Brown! Good God Indeed!
Did either of you catch Shatner's freshman effort? Freakin fantastic. It is like Captain Kirk meets the guy from Boston Legal. Amazing.
